These Lake Harbour Post journal entries show starvation was an ever-present fact of daily life, even in an area with abundant resources. At Wolstenholme Post things were bleak throughout 1920 to1921 as shown in a sampling of the journal kept there by Pennell and Nichols.
07-12-20The main object of this trip is to obtain dog feed as owing to the scarcity of seals, of which there are only a few on the Post, it has been found necessary to obtain a good supply of deer for this purpose.
14-02-21M.L. Manning with Isheuktuk, Narluktuk, and Mikpegak left early this morning with 2 cometiks on a trip up country to pick up the servants traps up in that direction and also to bring in two loads of deer meat which is getting pretty scarce at the Post.
17-01-21Jim Palliser along with the rest of the seal hunting party arrived at the Post about 4 o'clock this afternoon after a four days trip from Saddlebacks. The result of the trip was very disappointing, the only dog feed they had being what they got from Mukkivik ... .
