02-12-20 S.J. Stewart at work in office the whole day also M.L. Manning and W.J. Peters. Jim Palliser and Narluktuk arrived from the deer country about 3 o'clock this afternoon. Isheuktuk and Adam having stopped behind with their families where they intend continuing the hunt until Saturday. The report brought back by Jim Palliser was all that was to be expected although up to the time of his leaving the party had not met with the success which they had on the first trip. Altogether up to the afternoon the bag consisted of 23 deer mostly all shot at long range for although the deer are still as plentiful as before they kept mostly to the open country making it all the more difficult to get withing good shooting distance. All the deer which were shot on the last trip and which had been left lying all over the place were collected and cached in one of the snow houses. Besides the deer, 13 foxes in all were trapped between Jim Palliser, Adam and Isheuktuk JimPalliser getting five, Isheuktuk five and Adam three.

Adam and Isheuktuk with their families arrived from the deer country about 11 o'clock this forenoon bringing two loads of venison. They had continued to have good hunting after Jim Palliser had gone. 17 more deer having been shot between Thursday night and Friday night bringing the total hunt for the second trip to 40 deer all told and from their report they seem to be as numerous as ever. Six more foxes were trapped during the same time. 3being trapped by Isheuktuk and 3 by Adam bringing the total to 19 between Jim Palliser and these two. Jim Palliser with Narluktuk was at work the whole forenoon chopping up the der carcases and putting aside the pasts for the dogs and those for the Mess.

06-12-20 S.J. Stewart at work in office the whole day. M.L. Manning and W.J. Peters set off after breakfast to take up some of their traps which they intend setting further up the country and in another direction as it has been decided from their experience in trapping in that direction and after having given it a sufficient trial that the foxes do not seem to be running in that country. Jim Palliser with Adam and Isheuktuk and Narluktuk visited their traps outside the harbour getting 7 foxes between them. Isheuktuk had one, Narluktuk one, the other five falling to Jim Palliser making the biggest one man catch for one day up to the present time. They also took in some of their traps which they intend setting up the deer country where the foxes are reported to be pretty numerous.
07-12-20 In the early morning the weather was clear and bright with hardly a breath of wind but later in the forenoon it suddenly took a turn for the worse, becoming dull and overcast while a gale sprang up from the South East bringing occasional snow flurries. Manning accompanied by Jim Palliser, Isheuktuk, Adam, and Narluktuk left about 9 o'clock this forenoon for the deer country where they intend staying until Saturday. The main object of this trip is to obtain dog feed as owing to the scarcity of seals, of which there are only a few on the Post, it has been found necessary to obtain a good supply of deer for this purpose. The deer hunters arrived from the country about 5 o'clock this afternoon after a hard run the going being very bad after the recent spell of mild weather. They were able to bring only a small portion of the deer they shot as it was useless to get a heavy load through the big drifts. They had their usual luck as regards deer hunting, 34 in all being shot by the party, most of which have been cached up country until an opportunity presents itself for getting it to the most. One fact worthy of mention was that M.L. Manning shot his first deer, the only one he got during the week. Astonishing luck was had in trapping. 23 white foxes and one blue being caught during the week. Isheuktuk topped the list as usual with 11. The party had to travel a good days journey before they came up to the deer as they are steadily being driven further up country and being more scattered and having taken to the hills, it is not so easy to get within good shooting distance. The foxes also by their tracks are steadily going further inland which accounts for the drop in the bag. Jim Palliser led with 4, Isheuktuk 3,Adam 1 while three were collected from the traps set by M.L. Manning on the last trip.
