Lorenzo Alexander Learmonth

Hailing from Stronsay, Orkney, Learmonth signed on at 19 and was an apprentice clerk at various posts between 1911 and 1914; he was clerk in Cartwright in 1914 before serving in the Great War. He returned as Post Manager at Port Harrison 1919 - 1922 and at Lake Harbour 1922 - 1925.

Learmonth was at Lake Harbour throughout the 1919 - 1920 season and left there sometime after 05 08 20, the date of his last mention. He went on to serve as post manager at Lake Harbour 1922 to 1925; Chesterfield, Cambridge Bay, King William Island, Fort Ross and Coppermine before resigning in 1957

Learmonth was an avid archaeologist and social historian; he contributed nearly 2,000 ethnographicc and archaeological items to the Royal Ontario Museum and discovered artifacts linked to the ill-fated Franklin expedition on Adelaide Penisula in 1936. He has many written works and photographs on deposit at the HBC Archives.
